June is officially here in Cambridge, and the landscape is looking lush. The trees are at their fullest, the hedges are dense, and your commercial site is in full bloom. But with peak growth comes peak maintenance. For business owners, this month is about balancing aesthetics with safety and compliance.

 

Here’s what we’re focusing on for commercial sites this month:

Hedge Maintenance (The Second Cut) 

Hedges grow incredibly fast in June. That neat trim from May might already be looking a bit shaggy. A second cut now keeps boundaries crisp, maintains security sightlines, and stops branches from encroaching on public footpaths or roadways. It’s much easier to manage growth now than to tackle an overgrown mess in August.

Wildlife Compliance is Key 

Nesting season is at its height. Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, it’s an offence to damage or destroy active nests. Our team conducts thorough checks before starting any work. If we find active nests, we’ll pause and reschedule. It’s about protecting our local wildlife while keeping your project on track.

Pest and Disease Watch 

Warm weather brings pests. Keep an eye out for Oak Processionary Moth (OPM) caterpillars, which are active now, or aphids leaving sticky honeydew on cars and pavement below. Early identification means we can treat infestations before they become a health hazard or damage your property.

Wind Resistance Checks 

Full canopies catch more wind. If you’ve had any structural issues identified earlier in the year, June is the time to ensure they’re resolved before summer storms hit. Heavy leaves add significant weight to branches, so checking for weak unions is vital for liability protection.

Ground Access 

The ground is usually drier now, making it easier for our machinery to access tight spots without damaging your turf or paving.
